Under the Act 1956, KFDC was primarily set up by the Department of Fisheries, Government of Karnataka in the year 1970 to bring awareness about Fish and marine life. The primary purpose is to promote marine fisheries in the inland cities and towns of Karnataka. Widening the scope by introducing the concepts of Purse-seine boat catches,deep sea fishing operations & constructing mechanized boats.
